Kenya Red Cross has handed over 37 new modern houses to the victims of the tragic Solai Dam Burst In May 2018 that killed over 40 people.
The beneficiaries owned houses in Solai but they were destroyed when the Patel dam collapsed on May 9, 2018.
Apart from deaths, the disaster left hundreds of people without houses.
The new houses are part of Red Cross’ Solai community reconstruction programme that cost 37 million.
Each of the 37 houses has two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and an ablution block outside the main house.
The bedrooms were also furnished with a mattresses and a bed each.
Rongai Deputy Sub-County Commissioner Julius Kavita urged the beneficiaries to occupy the houses themselves, warning them against renting them out for profit.
